This kid friendly cookie craft couldn't be easier. Roll, bake and attach cookies to a string for an edible hanging treat.
Makes Approx. 20 Ornament Cookies
STEP 1: PREPARE COOKIE DOUGH
Prepare the dough according to the "Shaped Sugar Cookie Dough Recipe" found on The Recipe Page .
STEP 2: ROLL IN SUGAR AND BAKE
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a tray with parchment. Place the milk and colored sugars in three separate bowls. Use the portion scoop to scoop dough, scraping the top of the scoop flat. Roll each portion of dough with the palms of your hands into a ball. Dip cookie in milk, shake off excess and then roll in the bowl of sugar. Place on tray and flatten slightly with the palm of your hand. Repeat with remaing dough, rolling half the cookies in blue and half in pink. You should have 20 blue cookies and 20 pink cookies. Bake for 10 minutes or until the bottoms are very lightly browned and the cookies are firm.
STEP 3: ATTACH WITH ICING AND HANG
Cut 20, 7" pieces of twine. In the bowl of a stand mixer, fitted with the paddle attachment, prepare the royal icing per the bag instructions. Cut the very end off of a disposable piping bag and place royal icing inside. Pipe a small dollop of icing on one side of a cookie, place a loop of twine into the icing and sandwich a second cookie on top. Finish with remaining cookies. Let dry for 4 hours or more. Hang on tree.
