Heart Box O' Chocolate Bacon
This year I decided to give my husband a treat he really wants....chocolate dipped bacon in a heart box! Super simple to make and even more fun to eat, this project is made extra special with a custom message on top.
STEP 1) BAKE BACON
Place bacon on a two sheet trays and bake in a 350 degree oven until golden and crispy. Approximately 15 minutes (Do not overcrisp bacon or it will fall apart during dipping). Using tongs, remove bacon from trays and place on plates covered in paper towel to absorp some of the excess fat.
STEP 2) DIP AND ADD SPRINKLES
Place 1/2 of the coating chocolate in a microwave safe cup (such as a glass measuring cup) and heat in 45 second intervals, stirring after each one. Remove the coating when almost melted and continue to stir until completely melted. (Do not overheat). Tip the cup to the side and dip the bacon pieces in chocolate. Shake off excess. Place the bacon on a parchment lined tray to dry. Sprinkle with non pareils before the coating hardens.
STEP 3) DECORATE BOX
Cut the wax paper in a heart shape, slightly larger than the box. Push the wax paper down into the box. Layer the bacon pieces inside, trimming with a knife to shorten if necessary. Use adhesive letters to create a message on the outside of the box.
Note: Bacon should be made no more than one day in advance and refrigerated until serving. Coating chocolate is enough to cover 2 lb. of bacon.
