Ribbon Trimmed Tiers

Simple and modern, this small striped cake is perfect for a bespoke bridal shower or an intimate wedding.

Instructions

Step 1: IN ADVANCE (Note: this project requires 4 lb. white fondant)

Ice 6" and 8" cakes, roll in fondant and stack using jumbo straws for support. See our How To Ice a Cake, Fondant Basics, and How To Stack a Cake for additonal help.

STEP 2: CREATE RIBBONS

Divide all the remaining white fondant into 6 portions.

Using pastes, tint portions as follows:
Ivory: Yellow + touch Brown
Blue: Blue
Bright Green: Green+ Yellow+ touch of Brown
Peach: Pink + Yellow
Pink: Pink + touch of Blue
Olive Green: Green + Yellow+ Brown

Step 2: DECORATE CAKE SIDES

On a surface coated lightly with powdered sugar, roll out your ivory portion of fondant into a long thin rectangle. Use the Wilton Ribbon Cutter to cut a straight ribbon. Roll the piece of fondant up into a wheel and then unravel it around the cake adhering with a little water. 

Continue in the various colors of fondant adjusting the ribbon cutter as necessary.

Step 3: FINISH WITH TOPPER

In a microwave safe bowl, heat some of the white candy coating on half power, stirring every 30 seconds until melted. Fill each side of the mold and tap the mold gently on the counter to remove any air bubbles. Place the mold in the fridge for 15 minutes. Remove and pop out the two pieces. Let them come to room temperature and then attach both sides with melted coating. Attach the topper to the top layer with additional melted coating.
