Cream Cheese Icing

Tangy, buttery and just plain delicious, our cream cheese icing recipe is the perfect pairing for carrot cake, hummingbird cake or a traditional red velvet. Although we love the icing laced with orange, feel free to omit the zest to keep things classic.

2 sticks unsalted butter
2 - 8 oz. packages cream cheese
zest of one orange
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1/4 tsp salt

1.With the paddle attachment, beat the butter just until smooth.

2. Add the cream cheese and orange zest and beat until combined.

3. Mix in the vanilla and scrape down the bowl thoroughly.

4. Add the powdered sugar and salt to the bowl and mix on low just until combined.
