Then, download our Raven Silhouette Template as a guide to creating your elegant raven silhouettes from fondant.
Our Ultimate Sugar Cookie Dough recipe is the perfect cookie recipe to make this all happen. You can not only mix it up in advance, but you can roll, bake and freeze your cookies so that you can pull them out whenever you're ready to get started.
Step 1: Bake Cookies
Use the football cookie cutter and the Ultimate Sugar Cookie recipe and instructions to create the cookies.
Step 2: Make Frames
Microwave the white candy coating on half power in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until melted. (Do not overheat the coating or it will burn.)
Place a generous heaping spoonful of melted coating into each frame and spread almost to the edges of the mold. Rap the mold on the counter top to help spread the coating to the edges and flatten the surface. Place the mold in the freezer for 5 minutes of so, until very firm and flip out the frames. Set them aside on a tray while you continue to make the other ones.
Once the molds are finished and are back at room temperature, use cocoa powder to dust the inside of each mold to give it color. Dust a small amount on the frame edge as well to bring out the texture. Blow away any excess cocoa powder.
Step 3: Make Ravens and Finish Frames
Dowload and print the Raven Silhouette Template page and cut the templates out with scissors. On a surface lightly covered with powdered sugar, roll the black fondant about 1/8" thick. Transfer to a cutting surface and use a craft knife to cut the ravens out, using the templates as a guide.
Brush each raven in a very light coat of water and sprinkle with black sanding sugar. Shake off any excess. Flip and brush the back with a touch of water and position inside of the frame.
Step 4: Assemble
Dab some melted coating on the back of the frame and adhere to the top of the cookie.
