WHAT HAPPENED TO CAKEGIRLS CAKE SHOP IN CHICAGO?
After over 10 years in business, Cakegirls cake shop was destroyed in a fire. The fire damage was so severe that the building had to be demolished. Fortunately, no one was injured, but we did lose everything in the fire.
WHY DIDN’T YOU REOPEN CAKEGIRLS CAKE SHOP?
It was a long and arduous process dealing with insurance, as well as helping our loyal customers find other cake makers to fulfill their pending orders. During this process, we had time off to spend with our families and friends and the opportunity to reassess our priorities. Although the success we had at Cakegirls was more than we could have ever imagined, we ultimately made the decision to pursue other ways to reach people with our cake making ideas and the new www.thecakegirls.com was born.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE A DO-IT-YOURSELF ONLINE STORE?
Creating an online business gives us the opportunity to create cake ideas and share projects with people throughout the United States and the entire world. We have always loved making cakes for friends and family at home and this was our chance to share that love with other enthusiasts. Our goal is to create DIY cake projects and parties with style, that are both economical and fun!
CAN I EMAIL OR TWEET YOU WITH CAKE TECHNIQUE QUESTIONS?
Although we love to “talk shop”, we are currently focusing on creating new projects and products for upcoming seasons. We hope that this website helps showcase techniques and ideas that are helpful, but we are not currently able to respond to cake technique questions unrelated to the website.
WILL THERE BE ANY MORE EPISODES OF AMAZING WEDDING CAKES?
Although we had a lot of fun filming Amazing Wedding Cakes, we were unable to continue filming after the fire. Ultimately, the show was cancelled after our departure. Season 1, 2 and 3 appear periodically on Wetv and are also currently being aired in various international countries.
WILL YOU COMPETE AGAIN IN FOOD NETWORK CHALLENGES?
Competing on Food Network Challenge was a wonderful experience both personally as well as for our business. Right now the show is on hiatus so we have no plans to compete in the near future.
