Whenever Halloween rolls around, I can’t help but get excited about all the spooky treats that come with it. And these Oreo cookie mummies definitely fit the bill. These no-bake treats are like the friendliest ghosts, all wrapped up in white chocolate bandages and ready to give you a sugar rush instead of a scare.

Wanna learn how to make these edible cuties? Read on!

Why You’ll Love These Mummy Oreos

Don’t just take my word for it – here’s why you and everyone you know will adore these fun treats:

  • You don’t even need to turn on the oven for them! They need zero special baking skills, which is a major plus when you’re short on time or just don’t feel like dealing with the whole baking thing. You simply grab some Oreos and get straight to decorating.
  • You can get the whole family in on the fun! The recipe is a guaranteed way to keep the kids entertained and get them to eat the cookies they make, too.
  • These Oreo mummies are the perfect balance of spooky and sweet. They’re cute treats for school events but still have that Halloween vibe, thanks to their mummy-inspired design.
  • You get to be creative with the decorations! You can use different types of candy eyes, add sprinkles, or even drizzle some extra melted chocolate for a more elaborate mummy look.

7 Steps to Make Oreo Cookie Mummies

Gather these simple ingredients before you get started:

  • Oreo cookies (any flavor you like)
  • White candy melts (One 16-oz. bag should be enough for about 18 Oreo mummies.)
  • Chocolate molds (you can find these online or at some craft stores)
  • Candy eyes (a set of 50 should be more than enough)
  • A little bit of vegetable oil

Then, let’s get to the fun part:

Step 1. Melt the candy

Take about a quarter of your candy melts and toss them into a microwave-safe bowl. Zap them in the microwave on 50% power for short bursts (around 30 seconds), giving them a good stir after each burst.

Keep going until they’re completely melted and smooth. Don’t let them get too hot, or they could burn and turn lumpy. We want smooth mummy wrappings, not bumpy ones!

Step 2. Fill the mold

Pour the melted candy into each cavity of your mold. My go-to way is to fill them about a third of the way. It doesn’t take much, so try not to overdo it.

Step 3. Dip the Oreos

Carefully place the entire cookie into each mold cavity right on top of the melted candy. But don’t push it all the way down. You don’t want the cookie peeking through the candy coating later.

Step 4. Chill out

Once all the cavities are filled, pop the mold into the freezer for about 15 minutes to let the candy harden.

Step 5. Pop them out & repeat

When they’re solid, gently flip the mold over and release your Oreo cookies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Repeat steps 1-4 until you’ve used up all your Oreos. Let the cookies come back to room temperature before moving on.

Step 6. Melt & thin the candy coating

Grab the rest of your white melting wafers (about another quarter of the bag) and melt them in the microwave, just like before – short bursts and lots of stirring.

Once they’re melted, add a few drops of vegetable oil and stir it in well. This will thin out the candy coating, making it easier to drizzle. Feel free to add a drop or two more if needed.

Step 7. Decorate your cookies

Dip a fork into the melted candy and drizzle it back and forth over your mummy cookies to create that cool bandage effect. Don’t stress about being perfect or making them perfectly symmetrical. Mummies are supposed to look a little wonky and imperfect!

Before the candy coating hardens, it’s time to add the eyes. Dab a tiny bit of melted candy on the back of each eyeball and stick them onto the cookies. If the coating is still wet, the eyes won’t stick, so be quick!

Candy eyeballs can be a bit smudgy, so handle them with clean, dry hands or use little tongs or tweezers. If you accidentally smudge the front of the eyeballs, you can gently clean them with a slightly damp Q-tip.

Some Personal Notes

Serving

Before you unleash these little guys on your friends and family, make sure the candy coating is nice and hard. You can pop them in the fridge for a few minutes to speed things up – just lay them out on some wax paper first, then put them inside an air-tight container.

Oreo Selection

Don’t be afraid to play around with different Oreo flavors! I mean, who doesn’t love a good change once in a while?

You can even start with those pre-dipped white fudge or fudge-covered Oreos. Just remember you’ll need less candy coating since they’re already half-dipped.

Other Coating Ingredients

If you’re not a fan of vanilla candy melts, you can use regular chocolate melts. They’re super easy to work with and stick to the cookies like glue. Go for white or dark chocolate, depending on the look you’re going for.

In a desperate situation (I’ve been there), you can even use white chocolate chips.

Just add half a tablespoon of vegetable or coconut oil per cup of chips. It’ll help thin the melted chocolate out and make lines of chocolate stick like glue.

Getting Creative with the Eyes

Candy eyes are everywhere these days – you might even find them at your local grocery store. Online shops are your best bet if you want a wider selection. Don’t be afraid to get playful with different sizes or even spooky eyes for a Halloween vibe.

Using a Piping Bag

Want those mummy bandages to look extra sharp? Trade in your fork for a piping bag.

Fill it with your melted candy or white chocolate coating, snip a tiny bit off the tip (always do a test squeeze first!), and you’re good to go. It gives you way more control and makes those bandages look super professional.

Melting Without the Microwave

If microwaving isn’t possible, a double boiler is the way to go for melting candy coating or chocolate. It keeps the heat gentle and prevents burning.

No double boiler? No problem! Just use a saucepan with a metal bowl on top. Add a couple of inches of water to the saucepan, put the coating in the bowl, and bring the water to a boil. Then, turn the heat down to medium-low and stir until it’s all smooth.

If you’re serious about the melting work for these and other delicious treats, a candy or chocolate melting pot can be a worthwhile investment.

Most have different temperature settings, so you can keep your coating perfectly melted without worrying about scorching and changing its authentic flavor. Candy and chocolate melting pots also come with a handy pouring spout, which makes drizzling and dipping a breeze.

Good luck creating your own Oreo mummy army!
